A variable frequency drive (VFD) is one of the process automation tools that you can find with PCS Energy. We supply business process automation (BPA) like this because it makes your facility run more efficiently and gives you a finer degree of control over your day-to-day operations. High-quality automated systems will consume less power and pass those energy savings on to you.
The greater degree of control also offers you another mechanism for quality assurance for your products and services. Ensuring the correct operations are being performed at the proper levels enables your facility to increase productivity and streamline all of your processes. In the past, without process automation tools like this, every electric motor or pump had to be adjusted manually. This was a wasteful way to manage your time and resulted in either poor product quality or constant operational headaches.
Industrial automation allows you to set your operational parameters and trust that your devices will manage the adjustment process for you. This gives you and your workforce more time to focus on other essential tasks. Let PCS Energy make your job easier by giving you a higher degree of control that you won’t have to worry about.
If you have electric AC motors in your facility, then you have the opportunity to upgrade your processes with variable frequency drives. This applies to nearly any AC motor. It does not matter if it runs industrial equipment, a pump controller, or alters pressure and flow control for another piece of equipment.
The VFD works by allowing direct control of your electric motors. What this means is that it can run an AC motor at variable speeds or help the motors ramp up their speed to provide a smoother start up.
This process works by the VFD adjusting the frequency and voltage sent to the motor to alter the RPMs of the motor itself. This procedure requires the VFD to convert the voltage two times before it goes to the motor.
First, it takes AC power and converts it to a DC current through a diode. Then, with a capacitor, it cleans up and controls the voltage. Finally, the VFD uses transistors to convert it back to AC before sending it on to the motor. These stages are what allows the variable frequency drive to adjust the speed of the motor so precisely.
It doesn’t matter if an HVAC system is for a home or facility, it was likely a significant investment for you to make. On top of that, this equipment is often expected to run all day without stopping, probably for several days at a time. When you paid for your heating and cooling systems, you probably expected them to last for many years. PCS Energy is here to help you see that return on the investment you made in this equipment.
As licensed electricians, the team at PCS Energy has built up a wealth of knowledge about the best practices for running industrial equipment. The variable frequency drive is designed to operate with two main goals: meeting the parameters you set and running your equipment as efficiently as possible. This detailed level of control means you won’t be taxing your heating and air conditioning any more than necessary. Ultimately, that means your hardware is going to last longer and won’t need early replacement.

Automating business processes like this offers many advantages. You can adjust the flow rate to prevent a pressure drop or supply more pressure when needed. This digital transformation does not have to stop there, though. PCS Energy can take your operations a step further. By linking a variable frequency drive to a programmable logic controller (PLC), we can enable a higher degree of automation.
A PLC allows for a centralized display of multiple operations and can send out a broad range of commands to up to hundreds of inputs in real time. The complexity of a setup like this will vary based on the need of your operations. To learn more about variable frequency drives or other industrial automation tools, contact PCS Energy today.
Fully-automate your processes and increase your overall efficiency with cutting-edge tools, PCS Energy will be there start-to-finish.
